Security Guard Training

Effective June 1, 2024, Security Guard applicants are required to complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours basic training for Security Guards. The Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission has approved 17 mandated objectives to be taught in these courses. Security Guard renewals that are completed after June 1, 2024 must be accompanied by proof of eight (8) hours of In-service training. All training content must be approved by the Certification Unit of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions prior to being conducted.

MPCTC is responsible for reviewing and approving training programs. Any questions regarding Security Guard certification should be directed to the MD State Police.
